Build Bridges, Not Walls

Photo3_edited

This bridge will only take you halfway there
To those mysterious lands you long to see:
Through gypsy camps and swirling Arab fairs
And moonlit woods where unicorns run free.
So come and walk awhile with me and share
The twisting trails and wondrous worlds I’ve known.
But this bridge will only take you halfway there-
The last few steps you’ll have to take alone.

– Shel Silverstein

I’ve always had a hard time knowing what bridges to burn and which to walk across and get over. I’ve always prided myself on being able to see both sides of a situation. But sometimes, it just created this argument in my head – typically between my head and my heart.

I over analyze.
I don’t like hurting anyone’s feelings.
Sometimes I’m too understanding.

I think the “learning to be an adult” process is a beautiful thing. It’s hard. It takes a lot of courage to let go. It takes a deep understanding of who you are as a person to know what is worth keeping around in your own life. No one else can tell you otherwise. But you have to learn to take that first step. You have to learn that moving forward is better than thinking we are stuck behind our own walls. Take that step.

The
first
step
is
always
the
hardest.

And what better way to celebrate life’s choices than by finding a beautiful bridge in my favorite season of Autumn: a season full of changes and colors and character.

Who will you create?
